And then, she found a crumpled up piece of paper hidden in the wall that Dr. Manette had written that incriminated the Evrémondes. Then she joined the mob as it murdered and mutilated the governor who had defended the fortress. Madame Defarge, she cut off his head she did. The streets were covered in blood of slain aristocrats and other innocent victims. The revolution had begun to take more lives than just the guilty and there was no sign of an end.
