JERRY CRUNCHER: After a long sleepless night, Mr. Carton and I went to the gates of the Bastille where we approached John Barsad who had become the gatekeeper at the prison. Barsad, turns out to be Solomon Pross, the long-lost brother of Miss Pross though none of us recognized him. Sydney threatened to expose Barsad as an English spy if he failed to cooperate. He told him that he had been seen conversing with Roger Cly, a known English spy. When Barsad said that Roger Cly was dead and presented the certificate of burial, that’s when I stepped in! I was beyond excited! It was easy for me to disprove his story because I, being a resurrection man and all, knew that Cly’s coffin contained only stones and dirt and I said so! Mr. Carton once again threatened to expose Barsad as an enemy of the Republic and this time Barsad agreed to help being the spineless scum he was. Now John Barsad, reluctantly opened the gates to the prison to let Mr. Carton into the tower to Mr. Darnay’s cell. Sydney then told me, "a human being who has not secured the love of another has wasted his life". Then he told me to wait right here for im, so I did.
